Join us and local author Ashley Brown to discuss her new book and go on a walk around one of SLC's urban trails! Ashley will be selling copies of the book, and we will have Wasatch Mountain Institute and Every Kid Outdoors tabling with us! A little about the book - Urban Trails: Salt Lake City will get residents and visitors alike outside on more than 40 routes in the beautiful parks, canyons, and mountains in and around this fast-growing city. Whether readers are looking to walk, run, or hike, this full-color guide offers a wide range of options from short, easy jaunts to more challenging all-day hikes.Â
Life-long Utah local, Ashley Brown hails from Pleasant Grove and spent her childhood playing in the foothills of Mount Timpanogos. Wilderness conservation is a crucial component in how she writes and recreates--walking, hiking, and running in the mountains for rejuvenation. Her writing has appeared in a variety of Utah-based travel and outdoors publications, including Utah Adventure Journal, Park City Magazine, Townlift, PCStyle Magazine, and Neighbors of Park City Magazine.Â
WMI believes that everyone who lives within view of the Wasatch Mountains should have a connection with them. WMI programs connect children, families, and communities to the wonder, recreational, and educational opportunities of the outdoors. By playing and learning in the Wasatch Mountains, people will develop a sense of place that inspires them to steward the water, forest, and recreational resources of the Wasatch Mountains.
Marvel at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, the Florida Keys, and the Frederick Douglass house. Listen to wolves howl. Walk in dinosaur tracks. Look up into the inky night sky, and reach for the stars! These sites belong to all of us - including you. Every Kid Outdoors was created so fourth graders and their families could discover our wildlife, resources, and history for free. Every Kid Outdoors mobilizes our next generation of stewards by introducing fourth graders to public lands in their backyards and beyond at an early age.Â
